Quiz: Is Your Eye Cream a Rip-Off?

I read this from Tine and TheShadesOfU. It’s been a while back, but still, I thought I’d share. Haha.

Quiz: Is Your Eye Cream a Rip-Off?

Pinpoint the right ingredients for dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles

My main concern with my eyes are dark circles and dryness around the eye area, hence the fine lines. So was my eye cream working on me? I just gotta check! No point paying money for stuff that doesn’t work for you right?

Here’s what I got! This answer is meant for my dark circles.

Your key ingredients: kojic acid, retinol

“Dark circles aren’t preventable with creams,” says aesthetician Olga Lorencin-Northrup, owner of Kinara Spa in Los Angeles (and TotalBeauty.com expert panelist). “Some amount of kojic acid could lighten circles but that’s only if the area is discolored. Most of the time, [the cause] isn’t discoloration but fluid retention.” (If your product doesn’t contain kojic acid, try Skinmedica Uplifting Eye Serum, $48.75.) Dermatologist Dr. Heidi Waldorf adds that dark circles resulting from pigment, usually brown, can be treated with retinol (vitamin A), found in products like Avene Retrinal H.A.F., $40, but results often take two to six months to show.

And this one here, for dryness and fine lines around my eyes. :)

Your key ingredients: retinol, antioxidants and peptides

If your product contains at least one of these ingredients, you’re on the right track. Fine lines and wrinkles can be reduced and prevented with ingredients ranging from potentially irritating retinol (vitamin A) to non-irritating peptides and antioxidants, but you must be patient. “Long-lasting results can often take two to six months to show,” Waldorf says. The good news? “You should see improvement from better moisturization within a few days.”
If you’re not pregnant, aim for a gentle retinol product in cream form, like RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream, $21.99). “Sensitive eyelid skin may require a lower concentration of retinol than that which is used in a full-face product and a more moist base (cream vs. lotion) to avoid irritation,” says dermatologist Dr. Heidi Waldorf.

Also effective are peptides, which have been shown to decrease skin roughness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles without irritating skin (try Skinceuticals Eye Cream, $64, or Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum, $18.99), and antioxidants. (Look for ingredients like coffeeberry in Revaleskin Night Cream, $99, kinetin in Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream, $59, and shiitake mushroom complex in Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Ageless Eye Serum, $19.99.)

One thing weird is that I cannot have both dark circles and dryness in one answer, which means I have to do the questionaire twice to get answers for both of my concerns. Not that it bothered me alot though.

Hm, now I think I should start using back my Avon Eye Perfector With Peptides! Tee hee! I neglected it due to a new found love!

Shall review that eye cream soon!
